Security Services Around the City

No matter where we go we want to feel safe. Simply going out should not be accompanied by fears of being robbed or worse. Obviously to alleviate some of those fears calling the police is an option, but doing so means you are already in danger. Police are a reactionary response to crime, and may not show up in time to fully protect you. Security guards, however, play a crucial role in maintaining safety wherever they are stationed.

They are noticeable, aware, and have a desire to protect. Their presence alone is enough of a deterrent to prevent most crimes, especially in areas such as city halls or community centers. However, if crimes do happen to occur, they are the first line of defense. Springing into action to help those in need, they can minimize most damages and apprehend people before the police even get into their cruisers. If the emergency is not crime related, like a fire or medical incident, security guards are important for a different manner. Their authority allows them to safely manage the public, guiding them away and pointing them towards exits away from the danger. Their familiarity with the grounds they patrol makes them excellent at crowd control, helping to swiftly and safely execute evacuation plans in high stress situations.

It is for these reasons the City of Vancouver is seeking proposals from qualified firms/individuals for armed and unarmed sercurity services for various City facilities and departments. Their presence can bring a sense of security to employees and visitors, allowing for the more efficient running and more welcoming atmosphere that should exist in public spaces.
